About Justin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau has never known financial hardship or even financial discomfort for that matter.  He grew up rich, he is making almost 7 times the average Canadian salary, has no expenses and a half dozen staff taking care of life’s chores for him.

How well do you think he relates to most Canadians who work hard just to make it to their next paycheck, don’t know if they’ll ever be able to buy a house, are worried about retirement and have to do their own laundry?

Ever heard the term, “born with a silver spoon in his mouth”?

As of April 2024, the Prime Minister makes $406,200.  Not bad eh?  If you’re wondering what he’ll make in his retirement years, it is a reasonably healthy 2/3’s of his salary so if we break out the ol’ calculator it appears Mr. Trudeau will be scraping by with a mere $270,000/year.

Most people know that Justin’s father also occupied the office of the Prime Minister and was a lawyer but going back a little further, Justin’s Grandfather Charles-Émile Trudeau made his fortune in oil and gas. He sold his business to Champlain Oil for $1,000,000 back in 1932 and then got hired on as Champion’s General Manager.  Charles-Emile was also invested in mining.

Is it ironic that Justin wants to eliminate oil and gas and yet his family’s wealth is founded on it?

Three houses

24 Sussex Drive (the official residence) – Trudeau isn’t currently living in the house because it’s being renovated and the estimates being thrown around are between $30-$40 million worth of renovations.  Sounds a little pricey doesn’t it.  Do you know what it costs to build a house in Ottawa in 2024?  Prices range from $300 to $1000 per sq/ft.  The Prime Minister’s house is 12,000 sq/ft.  Check the math.

Rideau Cottage – A modest 10,000 sq/ft home where Justin Trudeau and his 3 children currently live while renovations are being completed at 24 Sussex but don’t worry about poor Justin having to take care of such a manor.  Over the years, the Prime Minister has had 6 to 12 staff taking care of duties such as housekeeping, driving, errands, minor maintenance, preparing meals, supporting events, and various administrative and support tasks.

Harrington Lake Cottage – This house is described as the “country residence of the Prime Minister of Canada” and sits on 13 acres in the Gatineau region of Quebec.  According to the Government of Canada National Capital Commission website, since 2018 the NCC has “invested” $8.7 million dollars in the property and there is at least $1.16 million more required.
